PHILADELPHIA – The No. 7 Virginia women’s squash team (13-6) had its season come to an end with a  6-3 loss against No. 6 Stanford (7-5) on Saturday (March 2) in a Howe Cup back draw match at the 2024 CSA National Collegiate Squash Team Championships at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center in Philadelphia, Pa.

The Cavaliers came back to tie the match three times, including a victory at the top of the ladder by senior Megan Best that knotted it 3-3, but the Cardinal won the final three matches of the day to pick up the 6-3 victory.

Junior Caroline Pellegrino was the first to erase a deficit, tying the match 1-1 with an 11-9, 11-5, 11-9 win at nine. Senior Olivia Walsh knotted the match at 2-2 by battling for a 3-2 win at three. Best defeated Madison Ho 11-7, 11-5, 11-5 for Virginia’s third point.

The Cardinal, who defeated UVA 7-2 in the MASC Championship match last month, won the final three courts to advance to the 5-8 consolation bracket final.

This is the third straight season Virginia will finish the season ranked in the top eight of the CSA final rankings.

Select members of the team will return to the Arlen Specter US Squash Center next week to compete in the 2024 CSA Individual Championships March 8-10.
