CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.  – The No. 3 Virginia men’s tennis team (13-4, 5-0 ACC) logged a 7-0 victory against Louisville (11-6, 1-2 ACC) on Friday (March 15) at the Boar’s Head Sports Club.

The match started outdoors but moved to the indoor courts midway through doubles. Once play resumed, seniors Chris Rodesch and Jeffrey von der Schulenburg closed out a 6-3 victory on the No. 2 doubles court. Senior Iñaki Montes and grad student James Hopper clinched the point with a 6-3 win on the top court,

In singles, grad student Edoardo Graziani returned to the singles lineup for the first time in a month, picking up a 6-3, 6-3 win at five to give UVA a 2-0 lead. Senior Alex Kiefer followed with a 6-3, 6-3 win of his own on four. Sophomore Måns Dahlberg won the clincher 6-2, 6-3 at court six. Montes added a 6-3, 6-4 win on the top court against No. 33 Etienne Donnet to make it 5-0.

The final two courts split first sets and elected to play full third sets to decide their outcomes.

Von der Schulenburg, playing up a spot at court three, won his first set 6-2 against Andre Steinbach but was edged 7-5 in the second. He took the third 6-3.

Rodesch closed out the sweep with a win at two against Natan Rodrigues. Rodrigues took the first set 7-5, but Rodesch came back with 6-2 and 6-3 wins in sets two and three to take the match and give the Cavaliers the 7-0 victory. Rodesch has won his last eight completed singles matches.
