TALLAHASSEE, Fla.  – The No. 4 Virginia men’s tennis team (15-4, 7-0 ACC) picked up a 4-1 victory against No. 14 Florida State (14-5, 4-3 ACC) on Sunday (March 24) at the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center in Tallahassee, Fla.

The Cavaliers won the doubles point and singles courts three, four and six to earn the victory. Sophomore Måns Dahlberg won the clinching point.

The Cavaliers opened with 6-2 victories on the top two doubles courts to take an early 1-0 lead. Senior Jeffrey von der Schulenburg and freshman Dylan Dietrich both had straight-set victories on courts three and four to make it 3-0, but then the match tightened.

Senior Chris Rodesch had his nine-match win streak snapped in a showdown of the top-ranked players in the conference. The Seminoles’s Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc came into the match with a perfect 14-0 record in singles and a No. 4 ranking. He edged Rodesch, who is ranked No. 10, 7-6 (3), 6-3 to give a point to FSU.

Virginia had won the first sets on five and six but dropped the second sets to go to third sets. Senior Iñaki Montes, who was playing on court two, had dropped his first set against Louis Pourroy, but won the second 6-3 to also force a third set.

Dahlberg took his third set 6-2 against Alex Bulte to secure the victory for the Cavaliers.

Virginia closes out its Florida road trip by returning to Miami on Monday. The Cavaliers and Hurricanes started a match on Friday morning, but it was rained out, with UVA leading 1-0. The two teams will resume play at noon tomorrow to conclude the match.
