No. 11 Cavaliers Conclude Racing at UVA Invite
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – No. 11 Virginia concluded racing at the UVA Invite Sunday (April 14) with a win in the Third Varsity Eight against No. 17 Oregon State at Lake Monticello.
UVA raced against No. 1 Stanford and No. 5 Yale Saturday (April 13) and four races against No. 4 Cal this morning.
The Cavaliers’ 3V8 topped the Beavers 7:10.8-7:28.6 in UVA’s last race of the weekend. Cal posted wins over UVA in the Varsity Eight, Varsity Four, Second Varsity Four and Second Varsity Eight.
UVA honored seniors Izzie Begley, Lauren Benedict, Cameron Bentley, Lily Bernero, Izzie Bird, Emma Bradish, Parker Cuthbertson, Sydney Fratamico, Eva Frohnhofer, Kelsey Gems, Nora Grabcheski, Jenna Hajji, Lily Jarrett, Beatrice Jones, Sheila Joyce, Kate Kelly, Ailbhe O’Grady, Zoe Tekeian and Caeley Tierney after Sunday’s racing.
The No. 1 Cardinal won all five races against the Cavaliers and Bulldogs on Saturday night. Stanford topped Virginia and Yale in the Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight, Third Varsity Eight, Varsity Four and Second Varsity Four. UVA finished runner-up to Stanford in the 3V8 and 2V4, and placed third in the V8, 2V8 and V4.
“Stanford seems to be one of the fastest in the country right now and we will find out at Texas on April 27 when we see them again with Texas and Ohio State.” UVA head coach Kevin Sauer said. “It’s pretty humbling to see that kind of speed from them as well as Cal and Yale. I was impressed by the grit of our 2V8 against Cal today. Congrats to the 3V8 for the win versus Oregon State. We will learn and respond. Many thanks to Stanford, Cal, Oregon State, Yale, and Syracuse for making the trip. Also, it was a really special honoring our seniors today after the racing. They are a special group.”
The Cavaliers return to action at the Longhorn Invite on Saturday, April 27 in Austin, Texas.
