CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 6 Virginia women’s lacrosse team (12-3, 4-3 ACC) is set to face off with Virginia Tech (9-7, 2-6 ACC) on Wednesday (April 17) at Thompson Field in Blacksburg, Va. First draw is set for 7 p.m.

FOR OPENERS

  • Virginia meets Virginia Tech for the 30th time in program history. The Cavaliers hold a 26-3 advantage in the series and have won two of the last three meetings.
  • After starting 9-1, the Cavaliers enjoyed their best start to a season since the 2007 team went 10-1 through the first 11 games of the season en route to an appearance in the NCAA title game.
  • With her next assist, UVA’s Madison Alaimo will break the Virginia single-season freshman record for assists for which she is currently tied (21).
  • Virginia’s Kate Galica is also on the verge of breaking the UVA single-season freshman record for draw controls—just five from sole possession of the record.

A BALANCED ATTACK

  • The Cavaliers make a habit of spreading the ball around with a team full of capable scorers
  • Morgan Schwab has set both the UVA single-game and career assist records with 48 to her tally this season. Madison Alaimo has proved to be a second quarterback for the team with 21 on the season as both primarily operate from behind the goal.
  • Eight different Cavaliers have hit double figures this season in goals while four have hit the 20-goal mark already led by Katia Carnevale with 41 on the season. Mackenzie Hoeg (38) and Jenna Dinardo (31) have each crossed the 30-goal mark.

THE SMITHFIELD COMMONWEALTH CLASH
The Smithfield Commonwealth Clash, originally called the Commonwealth Challenge (2005-2007), has been a part of the UVA-Virginia Tech rivalry since 2014. It is an all-sports, points-based program with the Commonwealth Clash trophy presented to the winning school each year for its dominance in head-to-head competitions. Virginia currently leads the competition by a score of 9-6 with Softball slated to battle for .5 points on Tuesday (April 16).

ON THE HORIZON
At the conclusion of the regular season, Virginia will wait to discover its seeding in the ACC tournament following the conclusion of league games on Thursday (April 18). As a top-six finisher, Virginia has clinched a first-round bye in the ACC tournament and will travel directly to Charlotte for the quarterfinals on Wednesday, April 24.
