CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The fifth-seeded No. 7 Virginia women’s lacrosse team (14-4) is set to open its campaign in the 2024 NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championship on Friday (May 10) when they host LIU (11-7) in the first round of the tournament. First draw from Klöckner Stadium is set for 3 p.m.

All three games of the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship at Klöckner Stadium will be streamed live on ESPN+ for authenticated subscribers. Links for the live stats and live stream are available on VirginiaSports.com.

NCAA FIRST ROUND TICKET & PARKING INFORMATION
Tickets are $10 for general admission and $15 for reserved seating. Fans may purchase tickets in advance via UVAtix.com or by calling the Virginia Athletics ticket office (434-924-8821). Fans may also purchase tickets at the Klöckner Stadium box office starting one hour prior to the event. Free parking for both games is available in the John Paul Jones South and West Lots.

VIRGINIA IN THE NCAA WOMEN’S LACROSSE CHAMPIONSHIP

  • The Cavaliers are set to make their 28th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship
  • UVA has played the second-most games in the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship appearing in 71 contests.
  • Virginia owns the third-most wins in the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship with 39
  • UVA earned its highest seed in the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship since 2008 when the team earned the No. 4 seed

NOTES ON THE MATCHUP

  • Virginia matches up with LIU for the first time in program history
  • Cavalier head coach Sonia LaMonica (Maryland ’03) will face off with former college teammate in LIU head coach Meghan McNamara (Maryland ’01).
  • LIU assistant coach Kerri Liucci (Towson ’22), was a former player under LaMonica. Together, the coach and player earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship in 2021

LAMONICA NAMED ACC CO-COACH OF THE YEAR

  • In her first season as head coach at UVA, Sonia LaMonica was voted ACC Co-Coach of the Year alongside former collegiate teammate Acacia Walker-Weinstein of Boston College.
  • In their first season under LaMonica, the Cavaliers recorded their first 14-win season since 2010 while matching a program-high six wins in ACC play. UVA’s 9-1 start to the season was its best since 2007. 

USA LACROSSE ALL-AMERICANS

  • Virginia’s Morgan Schwab was named a third-team All-American selection by USA Lacrosse on Thursday (May 9).
  • Schwab has been the focal point of the Cavalier offense in 2024 accounting for 71 points on 18 goals and 53 assists. The Cavalier attacker broke the UVA career assist record halfway through the 2024 season and set the UVA single-game assist record with eight in a win over Richmond.
  • Katia Carnevale, Mackenzie Hoeg and Maggie Bostain were each named honorable mentions.

FANTASTIC FRESHMEN

  • Virginia’s freshman class has been crucial to the team’s success this season. ACC Freshman of the Year Kate Galica leads a trio including Jenna Dinardo and Madison Alaimo on the ACC All-Freshman team
  • Offensively, Virginia’s freshmen account for 30-percent of the team’s goals this season led by Dinardo’s 36.
  • Madison Alaimo broke a UVA single-season freshman record with 23 assists while Kate Galica broke a freshman record of her own with 86 draw controls on the season
  • On the defensive end of the field, Kate Demark has been a steady and reliable player for the Cavaliers with 15 caused turnovers and 26 ground balls

ON THE HORIZON
Virginia’s top-eight seed means Klöckner Stadium will also serve as the host site for a first-round matchup between Florida and North Carolina on Friday (May 10) at 6 p.m.

The winners of Friday’s games will meet in the second round on Sunday (May 12) at Klöckner Stadium. First draw is set for (1 p.m.). All three games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
