Three Cavaliers Earn All-America Honors
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Catcher Jacob Ference was named a Second Team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) on Wednesday (June 12). Casey Saucke was recognized as a Third Team All-America selection and Henry Ford captured Freshman All-America honors from Perfect Game.
Ference, a transfer from Salisbury University, made an immediate impact on one of the top offenses in the country. He started 53 games (39 at catcher), batted .350 (70-for-200) with 17 homers, 13 doubles and 43 RBI. In addition he was successful on 12 of his 15 stolen base attempts. Ference was a Second Team All-ACC selection and reached base safely in 51 of his 53 starts. He ranked seventh in the ACC in slugging percentage (.710) and eighth in on-base percentage (.465).
Saucke put together his best year as a Cavalier that earned him a spot on the All-ACC Second Team for the first time. The junior posted career highs in hits (88), runs scored (56), doubles (18), home runs (14) and RBI (65). Saucke finished his career with 159 RBI and 50 doubles, both tied for the eighth-most in UVA history. His 88 hits were the seventh most of any ACC hitter in 2024.
Ford put together one of the top seasons by any UVA freshman. He became only the third UVA freshman since 1984 to lead the team outright in RBI (Bill Narleski in 1984 and Chris Newell in 2020). He broke the UVA freshman records for home runs (17), RBI (69) and total bases (151). His 69 RBI were tied for the fifth-most ever by a Cavaliers in a single-season and were second amongst all NCAA D-I freshmen in 2024.
