CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Virginia women’s lacrosse head coach Sonia LaMonica announced today (June 26), the signing of defender Lara Kology (Chatham, N.J.) who will join the Cavaliers for the 2024-25 season.

“I’m thrilled to have Lara join our lacrosse family here at UVA,” said LaMonica. “We care deeply about people and culture, and after spending some time with Lara and speaking with those who know her and her family well, it was clear that she would be an amazing fit within our program. I’m excited about her upward trajectory on the defensive end of the field as well as the recent experience she gained competing in Championship Weekend. She will no doubt be an enhancement to our program’s winning culture”.

Kology joins the Cavaliers following two seasons at Florida. After missing the 2023 season due to injury, she appeared as a defender in all 23 games in 2024 while making four starts. Kology contributed to a Florida team that advanced to Championship Weekend for the second time in the program’s history and finished the 2024 season ranked No. 4 in the final IWLCA poll. She accounted for six ground balls and five caused turnovers as a Gator.

A native of Chatham, N.J., Kology played for Chatham High School where she was a four-year starter and a two-time Under Armour All-American. Kology was also selected to attend the USA Lacrosse National Combine in 2021.

Lara becomes the third Kology sibling to join the Virginia men’s and women’s lacrosse programs. She follows her brothers Kyle (2018-21) and Griffin (2023-present) who have each played as defensemen for the men’s team.
