Anthony and Mountain Land CSC Academic All-America Honors, Nine Cavaliers Earn CSC All-District Honors

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia distance runners Will Anthony and Nate Mountain have been named to the 2023-24 Academic All-America Track & Field/Cross Country Third Team while nine Cavaliers earned CSC Academic All-District honors as announced Wednesday (July 10) by the College Sports Communicators.

With their selection, Anthony and Mountain join the list of Cavalier honorees including Andrew Dumm (2007), Mark Amirault (2013), Owayne Owens (2021, 2022, 2023), Michaela Meyer (2021) and Derek Johnson (2023).

Both Anthony and Mountain turned in impressive seasons on the track over the course of the 2023-24 season. Anthony made two podium appearances at the ACC Outdoor Championships earning the silver medal in the 10,000m with his time of 29:18.80 and bronze in the 5000m clocking 13:40.17. In his NCAA Outdoor Championships debut, Anthony finished 18th in the 10,000m to earn Honorable Mention All-America honors. While performing at the highest level on the track, Anthony also maintained a perfect GPA majoring in Physics and Mathematics.

Mountain’s campaign was highlighted by his performance at the Virginia Challenge where he shattered the school record in the 3000m steeplechase clocking 8:20.68 to set the NCAA leading mark and achieve the US Olympic Trials standard. The junior won back-t0-back ACC gold medals while also setting the meet record in the event. At the NCAA Outdoor Championships, Mountain finished runner-up in an exhilarating steeplechase final clocking 8:25.71. In his US Olympic Trials debut, Mountain qualified for the 3000m steeplechase final where he finished 11th overall. The Cincinnati, Ohio native not only turned in a stellar season on the track but solidified himself in the classroom with his major in Commerce.

Furthermore, nine cavaliers earned CSC Academic All-District honors for the 2024 season. The 2024 Academic All-District Men’s and Women’s Track & Field teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation’s top student athletes for their combined performances on the track, in the field, and in the classroom. The Virginia honorees for the 2024 season include Will Anthony, Gary Martin, Nate Mountain, Alex Sherman, Samantha Romano, Maggie Hock, Esther Seeland, Caroline Timm, Anna Workman.
