CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Outfielder Anthony Stephan was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 13th round (389th overall) on day three of the 2024 MLB Draft. Virginia had a total of four players taken in this year’s draft.

Four or more Cavaliers have been selected in the MLB Draft in 17 of the 21 seasons under head coach Brian O’Connor. Since 2004, 102 Cavaliers have been selected in the draft.

Stephan appeared in 45 games for the Cavaliers in 2024 and made 33 starts. At the plate, he batted .306 (41-for-134) with 10 doubles, two triples, two homers and 21 RBI. Stephan was a 2024 ACC All-Academic Team selection and is a three-time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll.

Stephan was crucial in UVA’s 2023 run to the College World Series hitting three of his five homers on the year in the NCAA Tournament. He went 5-for-12 in the Charlottesville Regional and was listed on the All-Tournament Team. In 121 games played for UVA, Stephan is a career .309 hitter and sports a .437 career on-base percentage.
