Virginia Announces Impressive Men’s Recruiting Class
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia track and field program announced its men’s signing class for the 2024-25 season on Thursday (July 25). The men’s class features a total of 16 athletes, including five transfers and one student-athlete from New Zealand.
“Coming off an outstanding win at the 2024 ACC Outdoor Championships and an eighth-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, the combination of transfer and first year student-athletes will keep us strong and elevate all event areas, especially in the throws and middle-distance,” said Virginia Track and Field Program Director Vin Lananna.
The Virginia men will add multiple transfer student-athletes with impressive resumes highlighted by Will Daley and Jeremiah Nubbe. An All-Ivy League selection for Dartmouth, Daley finished fifth in the 5000m at the Outdoor Ivy League Championships as well as being a member of the Big Green gold medal winning DMR team at the Indoor Ivy League Championships in 2022. In the ring, Nubbe was a three-time Big 12 Champion between the hammer and weight throw at Texas. The two-time All-American was also named the Big 12 Outstanding Freshman of the Year in 2023.
Among the first-year student-athletes, the Cavaliers incoming class is highlighted by James Ford and Caleb Holman. Ford was recently selected by New Zealand to compete at the U20 Championships in Peru and has a personal best of 1:49.08 for 800 meters. Holman recently won the triple jump and finished second in the long jump at the SCHSL State Championship 5A.
Between men and women, the Virginia Track and Field program will add a total of 33 student-athletes including 11 transfers and five international student-athletes.
“These 33 men and women represent all areas of track and field with the incoming first years and transfer student-athletes being a reflection of the hard work of both the staff and the team to pull together this outstanding group of future cavaliers,” said Lananna.
