CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 7 Virginia women’s soccer team (4-0-0) returns to action on Sunday (Sept. 1) when the Cavaliers travel to face JMU (1-1-2) in a 6 p.m. contest at Sentara Park.

  • The Cavaliers took a massive jump in the polls after week two, vaulting to No. 7 in the United Soccer Coaches rankings following a win at No. 3 Penn State and a 5-0 shutout of Utah Valley

  • Transfer Linda Mittermair also got into the scoring column for the first time as a Hoo when the midfielder notched a goal and an assist in the last game against the Wolverines
  • Lia Godfrey is a big piece of the puzzle back on the pitch for the Hoos after missing 2023 as the midfielder currently ranks 16th nationally in assists per game for her career (0.37)
  • Alexis Theoret and Allie Ross got into the scoring with their first goals of 2024 vs. Utah Valley
  • Yuna McCormack was called up to the U20 USWYNT for the U20 Women’s World Cup that opens play in the group stages on Sunday afternoon at the tournament in Colombia

THE SERIES WITH JMU

  • Virginia and JMU have faced each other 26 times with the Cavaliers holding a 23-1-2 lead in the series
  • The teams last met in 2022 when the Cavaliers picked up a 2-0 victory in Charlottesville
  • Virginia is 7-1-1 in games played at JMU and have won 11 straight in the series dating back to a win in the 1999 NCAA Tournament
