TOLEDO, Ohio – In its first tournament of the 2024-25 season, the sixth-ranked Virginia men’s golf team is in fourth place after 36 holes on Monday (Sept. 9). Juniors Bryan Lee and Ben James are tied for second and tied for fourth, respectively, in individual competition.

The Cavaliers combined to shoot a 4-over, 556 and are eight strokes off defending national champion Auburn’s, 4-under, 548 for the tournament lead.

Lee posted UVA’s low round of the day with a 64 on his second 18. It was Lee’s second lowest round of his Cavalier career, one off his 63 at the 2024 Puerto Rico Classic.  Lee started his second 18 on the fifth hole and went on to rattle off six birdies in eight holes beginning with his on No. 11. Lee is 3-under for the tournament is tied for second place.

James is tied for fourth after firing back-to-back 68s. His began his day with birdies on three of his first four holes. He recorded two birdies and a bogey on his final 18 holes of the day.

Freshman Maxi Puregger made his collegiate debut competing as an individual.

Two groups from College of Charleston and Toledo will finish up their second rounds  the third and final round begins at 8:30 a.m. Coverage on ESPN+ begins at noon.
