Amo Named USTFCCCA Southeast Region Men’s Assistant Coach of the Year for Indoor Track & Field

Brandon Amo named USTFCCCA Southeast Region Men's Assistant Coach of the Year after another successful indoor track season for the Cavaliers, the organization announced Thursday (March 19).

NEW ORLEANS – Virginia assistant coach, Brandon Amo, was named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Southeast Region Men’s Assistant Coach of the Year for the 2026 indoor track & field season, the organization announced Thursday (March 19).

In his third season as the assistant coach for the throwing events, Amo recently led three Cavaliers to All-America honors. The Virginia men recently finished tied for 12th place at the NCAA Indoor Championships as the Cavaliers scored a total of 13 points in the men's weight throw alone. Amo led three weight throwers including Keyandre Davis, Jeremiah Nubbe and Nikolaos Polychroniou to NCAA top 10 rankings and achieved a No. 1 ranking in the national #EventSquad Ranking as four men threw over 70 feet.

After a fourth-place finish in the weigh throw in 2025, Nubbe finished runner-up at the 2026 NCAA Indoor Championships on his penultimate throw. The senior threw a new personal best of 24.29m79-8.25 to break his own Virginia program record and ACC record in the event. Davis also earned his spot on the podium with a fourth-place finish with his third-round mark of 22.84m/71-10.25. Polychroniou earned second team All-America honors with a nineth place finish.

At the ACC Indoor Championships, Amo led four men's weight throwers to the final including Cale Ayers, Davis, Nubbe, and Polychroniou. The quartet scored a total of 23 points as Polychroniou kept the event title in Charlottesville with a new personal best mark of 23.06m/75-8. Nubbe, who won the event a year ago, earned the bronze medal followed closely by Davis in fourth place and Ayers in seventh place respectively.

This marks Amo's first time being named the USTFCCCA Southeast Region Men’s Assistant Coach of the Year for indoor track & field while at Virginia.

The Cavaliers will kickstart the outdoor track & field season at home as the team is set to host the 2026 Virginia Opener at Lannigan Field on Saturday, March 21.
