SERIES HISTORY

  • Virginia leads the all-time series with High Point, 6-2, including a 1-0 mark in High Point N.C.
  • In the series’ eight games played so far, the Cavaliers' average margin of victory is only 3.0 goals.
  • The Hoos have won the previous four meetings, all of which have been at Klöckner Stadium. UVA's four-game win streak is the longest by either team in the series.
  • The last time the two teams met – on Feb. 18, 2025 – Ryan Colsey notched a career-high nine points on six goals and three assists in UVA's 17-8 win over the Panthers at Klöckner Stadium.
  • In just his third consecutive start, Kyle Morris earned the win in net. Former UVA goaltender Matthew Nunes relieved Morris to start the second half. With the help of its defense, UVA held the Panthers to only 15 shots on cage, seven of which were saved by UVA goalies.
  • Virginia lost the inaugural matchup of the series in overtime, 12-11, on Feb. 23, 2016, at Klöckner Stadium.

LAST TIME OUT

  • Virginia led by as many as seven goals [11-4] in the second half before then-No. 16 Johns Hopkins mounted a 14-13 come-from-behind victory last Saturday (Feb. 28) at Klöckner Stadium.
  • The contest proved to be the third consecutive one-goal game of the series, dating back to UVA’s double-overtime thriller over the Blue Jays in the 2024 NCAA Tournament quarterfinals.
  • Hopkins attackman Hunter Chauvette scored a game-high six goals. His final strike of the afternoon gave the Blue Jays their first lead of the game, which they did not relinquish.
  • With the win in the 100th game of the series, which began in 1904, the Blue Jays retained possession of the Doyle Smith Cup — bestowed annually to the winner of the regular-season matchup — for the third consecutive year, doing so on the 20th anniversary of the trophy’s establishment.

UVA'S KEVIN CASSESE AND HIGH POINT'S JOHN CRAWLEY SHARED CONNECTION

  • John Crawley, who's in his second year as High Point head coach, previously served as an assistant under current UVA associate head coach Kevin Cassese, when Cassese was the head coach at Lehigh.
  • Cassese became the Mountain Hawks' all-time winningest coach and guided them to three Patriot League titles during his tenure in Bethlehem from 2008-23.
  • Crawley spent three seasons (2020-22) as Lehigh's offensive coordinator.
  • In 2021, Cassese and Crawley guided the Mountain Hawks to their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2013. Fittingly, Lehigh's NCAA Tournament first round game against Rutgers was hosted by UVA at Klöckner Stadium.

SCOUTING THE PANTHERS

  • High Point is in its second season under head coach John Crawley.
  • Since defeating VMI 19-11 in their season opener, the Panthers are in the midst of a four-game skid with losses to then-No. 6 North Carolina, then-No. 9 Ohio State, Robert Morris and Jacksonville.
  • Last year, HPU went 7-9 overall and 3-2 in the Atlantic 10, finishing as the A10 regular-season runners-up for the first time since joining the league in 2023.
  • The Panthers added 19 new players for the 2026 season, with 17 freshmen and two transfers.
  • HPU faceoff specialist Luca Accardo was named a USA Lacrosse Preseason All-American and a Nike Lacrosse Preseason Media All-American.

McCABE MILLON'S IMPRESSIVE START

  • Millon currently leads all Division I players in both points (6.75) and assists (3.75) per game.
  • He has notched at least five points in each game played so far this season.
  • Millon achieved career highs in both points (9) and assists (5) in UVA's season opener, a 19-14 win over Colgate (Feb. 8).

HOOS IN THE NATIONAL STATISTICAL RANKINGS

  • For games played through March 1, Virginia leads the nation in assists (11.50/gm).
  • The Cavaliers are also second in points (27.25/gm), fourth in scoring offense (15.75/gm) and fifth in ground balls (37.50/gm).
  • Brendan Millon leads all Division I freshmen in assists per game (2.50), also tied for eighth overall nationally. He's also one of two DI freshmen averaging at least 4.75 points per game, an average that's tied for 14th in the country.
  • Brendan and McCabe Millon are first and second, respectively, among all ACC players in points per game.
  • Faceoff specialist Griff Meyer is seventh in ground balls (8.25/gm), good for second among all ACC players.

ON THE HORIZON

  • The Cavaliers return home to host Towson at Klöckner Stadium on Saturday (March 7).
  • Opening faceoff is set for 6 p.m. on ACC Network.
  • The Tigers are at Loyola on Tuesday (March 3) at 6 p.m.
