CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia men’s squash sophomore Juan Jose Torres Lara has been named the Men's Player of the Year in honors announced Tuesday (March 31) by the Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference. He shares the award with Navy's Wenqing Tang.
Torres Lara is the fourth member of the men’s squash program to take home player of the year honors, joining Omar El Torkey, Aly Hussein and Karim Elbarbary.
He compiled a 13-2 record on the season, playing primarily at two. After beginning the season with nine consecutive wins, seven against Ivy League opponents, he earned three wins in Virginia's MASC Championship run. He later notched a 3-0 against No. 5 Yale in the CSA Team Championships quarterfinals.
Torres Lara helped Virginia finish within the top 8 of the final collegiate rankings for the sixth straight year.
