DURHAM, N.C. — The Virginia men’s and women’s track and field program closed out the four-day competition at the Duke Invitational at Morris Williams Track & Field Stadium in Durham, N.C. on Saturday (April 11) as four Cavaliers recorded program Top-10 marks.
Cavalier Top 10s...
- Abigail Meckes threw a new personal best of 47.83m/156-11 on her first throw of the competition in the women's javelin. Her mark ranks No. 10 all-time in program history.
- Madison Townsend cleared a new personal best of 3.93m/12-10.75 in the women's pole vault group A. Her mark ties Theresa Demaria ('17) at No. 10 all-time and No. 5 among freshman in program history.
- Jayden McKeen threw a new personal best of 64.11m/210-4 to round out the top five finishers in the men's javelin. With his mark, Jayden bettered his Virginia No. 7 all-time mark.
- Jakob Alperin finished fourth in the men's shot put with his third round throw of 17.22m/56-6. His mark ranks No. 9 all-time in program history.
In the Field...
- Kendric Curry cleared 4.81m/15-9.25 on his second attempt at the height to finish second in the men's pole vault group B.
- Janae Profit won the women's shot put competition with her mark of 15.73m/51-7.25 on her fifth round throw.
- In the men's long jump, Liam Paneque recorded a personal best on his first jump in the competition leaping out to 7.36m/24-1.75 to finish in fourth place. His mark ranks No.2 all-time among freshman in program history.
- Grace Smith jumped out to 6.12m/20-1 on her third jump to finish sixth overall.
- In the men's triple jump, Liam Paneque jumped a new personal best of 14.50m/47-4 (+0.6) to finish 10th.
On the Track...
- Ariel Fletcher finished seventh in the women's 400-meters with her time of 54.57.
- Fletcher later finished 10th in the women's 200-meter dash with her time of 24.18 (-0.9).
- In the men's 400-meter hurdles, Anders Felts clocked a new personal best of 52.44 to finish sixth overall in the competition.
- Jacob Garnett clocked 21.57 (-0.4) in the men's 200-meter dash.
Up Next
The Cavaliers return home to host the Virginia Challenge at Lannigan Field in Charlottesville, Va. Thursday, April 16 through Saturday, April 18. The weekend will include the senior recognition and reception at the conclusion of the meet on Saturday as well as dedicating Friday's distance carnival to Mark and Cynthia Lorenzoni.
