CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia baseball matched a program best with five selections on the 2022 Atlantic Coast Conference All-Academic Team. The Cavaliers have placed four or more student-athletes on each of the last three ACC All-Academic teams.

LHP Brian Gursky (Education), infielder Griff O’Ferrall (Undeclared), infielder/right-handed pitcher Devin Ortiz (Educational Psychology – Master’s), outfielder Casey Saucke (Undeclared) and outfielder Alex Tappen (Education) were each recognized for their work in the classroom for the first times in their careers.

Gursky (Second Team), O’Ferrall (All-Freshman), Saucke (All-Freshman) and Tappen (First Team) were All-ACC honorees at the end of the regular season. In 2019, Virginia also had five selections on the All-Academic Team, a program-record.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.

The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
