2020-21 SEASON

• ACC Player of the Year, joining Brian Vahaly as the only Cavaliers to repeat as the conference player of the year
• WINA Outstanding Male Athlete  the fourth player in program history to be named UVA’s Male Student-Athlete of the Year
• Also named UVA’s Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the third time earning that honor. He is the only Virginia athlete, male or female, to win the award three times
• ACC Men’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year, second time winning the honor
• ACC Championship MVP
• ITA Singles All-American after earning the No. 7 seed in the NCAA Singles Championship, his second All-America honor
• ITA Atlantic Region Senior of the Year
• CoSIDA First-Team Academic All-American, the first player in program history to twice be named an Academic All-American (and one of just two in program history to earn the honor once). Moved up to First Team honors after being on the second team last year
• CoSIDA Academic All-District 3, the first player in program history to twice earn the honor
• All-ACC First Team, his fourth time earning conference honors and his third time being named to the first team
• All-ACC Academic Team, earning the honor all four years of his career (award not presented in 2020)
• ACC’s automatic qualifier into the NCAA singles championship while also earning an at-large bid into the doubles championship
• ITA Indoors All-Tournament Team at No. 1 Singles
• Started the season ranked No. 29 in singles, moving up to a No. 6 ranking in the first update of the year where he remained most of the season
• Doubles team with William Woodall entered the ITA rankings at No. 10 in the first updated list of the spring, jumping to No. 4 in week two
• Named the ACC Doubles Team of the Week alongside William Woodall after defeating the No. 22-ranked duo from Miami, 6-1, and battling to a 7-5 win against Alex Knaff and Sebastian Arcila to clinch a tightly-contested doubles point against Florida State in the first matches at the Virginia Tennis Facility at the Boar’s Head Resort (3/10)
• Also named the ACC Singles Player of the Week that same week (3/10) after picking up a 6-1, 7-6 (5) victory over No. 34 Adria Sorriano Barrera of Miami on the top singles court en route to UVA’s 7-0 sweep of the Hurricanes and then winning 6-3, 6-0 win against the Seminoles’ top player in the weekend finale. It was his fourth career ACC Singles Player of the Week honor and his second for doubles
• Earned his second ACC Doubles Team of the Week honor after clinching the doubles point in the win against No. 1 North Carolina. He and William Woodall took on the No. 5-ranked team, winning their match, and the point, with a 7-2 win in a tiebreaker (3/30)
• Withdrew from the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships with a shoulder injury before the start of play
• Finished the season ranked No. 13 in singles and No. 15 in doubles
• Finished his career with a 67-17 record in singles
• VaSID State Player of the Year, First Team All-State in singles and doubles, his second time being named the top player from a university in the Commonwealth of Virginia
• ITA Scholar-Athlete
• ACC Academic Honor Roll, one of six Hoos this year to be a five-time recipient

2019-20 SEASON

• CoSIDA Academic All-American Second Team, just the second player in men’s tennis’ program history to earn the accolade (announcement release)
• CoSIDA Academic All-District 3 At-Large team (announcement release)
• Ranked No. 1 in the Preseason ITA Singles rankings, the seventh player in program history to be the top-ranked singles player in the country during their career
• Member of Sweden’s Davis Cup Team, named to the five-player roster for the qualifier against Chile, held March 6-7 in Stockholm, Sweden
• Is living on The Lawn this year, the first Virginia men’s tennis player to earn that prestigious university honor
• 2020 ACC Weaver-James-Corrigan Postgraduate Scholarship Award winner,  awarded to selected student-athletes who intend to pursue a graduate degree following completion of their undergraduate requirements. Each recipient will receive $6,000 toward his or her graduate education. Those honored have performed with distinction in both the classroom and their respective sport, while demonstrating exemplary conduct in the community
• Repeated as the Virginia athletics department’s Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Joins Thai-Son Kwiatkowski as the only Cavalier in the history of the award to twice win the honor
• Advanced to the second round of singles at the Charlottesville Challenger with a three-set victory over No. 381 Ryan Peniston, also making the Round of 16 in doubles while partnering with Brandon Nakashima (11/1)
• Advanced to the semifinals at the $15K Legacy National Bank NWA Tennis Series tournament in Fayetteville, Ark.
• Won the singles title at the $15K Koksijde Men’s Trophy ITF World Tennis Tour tournament in Belgium (8/18), his third professional title
• Competed in qualifying for the ATP 250 tour stop in Bastad, Sweden, but was edged in three sets by No. 53 Pablo Carreno Busta
• Did not play collegiate tournaments in the fall, recorded a 7-2 mark in singles in the shortened spring season
• Battled for a 6-7 (7), 7-5, 14-12 win over Bar Botzer on the top court of a non-conference match at Wake Forest (2/9)
• Logged a dominant 6-1, 6-0 victory over No. 10 Richard Ciamarra of Notre Dame (3/1)
• Went 7-3 in doubles, ranking as high as No. 35 with partner Matthew Lord
• VaSID All-State First Team in singles and doubles

2018-19 SEASON

• ITA Singles All-American
• ACC Men’s Tennis Player of the Year, the sixth player in program history to earn the honor
• All-ACC First Team, his third time earning all-conference honors and his second-straight year on the first team
• ACC Men’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the sixth time in program history that a Cavalier has won the honor
• Named the Virginia Athletics Department’s Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year at the Hoos Choice awards
• ITA Atlantic Region Player to Watch
• All-ACC Academic Team, third time earning the honor in his career
• Ranked No. 9 in singles in the preseason rankings (Sept. 11), moving up to a No. 3 ranking (April 23); ranked No. 5 in the final singles rankings of the year (May 29)
• Earned the No. 3 seed in the NCAA Men’s Singles Championship, but did not compete in the tournament
• Ranked as high as No. 3 in singles
• Finished the year with a 20-5 record in singles, including a 9-1 mark in the ACC
• Clinched five matches for the Cavaliers, including the win over North Carolina in the ACC Semifinals and the win over Stanford in the NCAA Super Regional
• Named the ACC Men’s Singles Player of the Week (Jan. 29) for his efforts at the ITA Kickoff Weekend matches, including picking up the victory at No. 2 singles to clinch the victory over host Texas A&M
• Named the ACC Men’s Singles Co-Player of the Week (March 19) after toppling 2018 NCAA Singles Champion Petros Chrysochos in straight sets in the match against Wake Forest. Chrysochos, currently ranked No. 2 in singles, is the highest-ranked opponent that Söderlund has defeated to date
• Earned his third ACC Men’s Singles Player of the Week honor (April 8 ) after picking up a pair of wins over ranked opponents, including a dominating 6-0, 6-0 win over Miami’s No. 36 Adria Soriano Barrera and No. 39 Lucas Poullain of Florida State
• Did not play in any collegiate singles matches in the fall, but went 3-0 in doubles

• Advanced to the semifinals of the Los Caballeros USTA $10,000 Men’s Futures Tournament in Fountain Valley, Calif. (10/01) and the semifinals at the Long Beach Futures (1/14)
• Advanced to the second round of the Charlottesville Challenger (11/01)
• Initially named to the Swedish Davis Cup team’s six-player roster for its Europe/Asia Group I Relegation Round matches against The Netherlands on Sept. 16-18 in Bastad, Sweden, but did not join the team
• 2016 year-end ATP singles ranking of 454

BACKGROUND

• Before heading to UVA, reached a career-high ATP singles ranking of 399 (7/11)
• Won his first professional tournament, taking the singles title at the Collector Norwegian Open, a $10,000 Futures event in Oslo, Norway in November of 2015
• Won his second professional singles crown in May 2016 at the Rising Star Tour Futures Tournament in Karlskrona, Sweden
• Advanced to the semifinals of the 2016 Bastad Challenger after coming back from down a set against World No. 159 Daniel Gimeno-Traver
• Earned a wildcard into the ATP 250 Swedish Open. In his ATP Tour main draw debut, he downed Fred Simonsson to advance to the Round of 16
• Advanced out of qualifying at the Liberec Challenger in the Czech Republic before falling in the first round in a third-set in a tiebreaker (August 2016)
• Represented Sweden in the 2014 European National Championships

PERSONAL

• Parents are Stefan and Charlotte Rylander Söderlund
• Has three older sisters, Kim, Mica and Louise Söderlund
• Lived on the Lawn his senior year; lives on the Range for his graduate year
• Graduated in May 2020 with a BA in Commerce
• Enrolled in a masters program in the McIntire School of Commerce for 2020-21
