UVA Wins Three of Four Races at Rivanna Romp
EARLYSVILLE, Va. — The Virginia rowing team won three of four races at the Rivanna Romp Sunday (Nov. 13) on the Rivanna Reservoir. UVA won the Varsity Eight, Varsity Four and Varsity Pair races as the Cavaliers concluded their fall season.
The annual regatta featured crews from UCF, Duke, Louisville, Navy and North Carolina. Virginia has captured the last 16 Varsity Eight races at the Romp, while the UVA Varsity Four has won 13 of the last 15 races.
UVA’s Second Varsity Eight claimed the win at the Rivanna Romp, completing the 4,000-meter course with a winning time of 12;49.50. UVA’s V8 finished second at 12:50.1 followed by Duke’s V8 at 12:57.6 and Virginia’s 3V8 at 13:15.5.
The Cavaliers’ Varsity Four defeated UVA’s Second Varsity Four 14:20.9-14:24.5. Duke’s Varsity Four placed third at 14:25.9, while UVA’s Third Varsity Four placed fourth at 14:41.4.
UVA tandem Catherine Williams and Lauren Benedict won the Varsity Pair race, edging teammates Kate Kelly and Leia Till 11:44.4-11:45.7.
Duke’s Novice Eight defeated UVA’s N8 13:22-14:00.
“The fall has been an incredible opportunity for the team to bond and train hard together,” UVA co-captains Tahne Badenhorst and Larkin Brown said. “We have taken this semester to get faster, be gritty and learn a lot from each other.
“The team is looking strong this year and it was awesome to witness that today at the Rivanna Romp. We are so proud of this team and looking forward to what we can achieve. Thank you to Duke, UNC, Navy, UCF and Louisville for making the trip. It was great to see our ACC competitors this fall. Go Hoos!”
