CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – No. 13 Virginia (11-1) never trailed in a 6-3 win over Penn State (7-4) on Tuesday (March 5) at Disharoon Park. It marked the 850th career victory for head coach Brian O’Connor who is in his 21st season as head coach of the Cavaliers.
Virginia scored five of its six runs in the first four innings and the Cavalier bullpen tossed 4.1 scoreless innings to seal the victory in Virginia’s final game of a five-game homestand. Junior Griff O’Ferrall went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Harrison Didawick hit his team-best, fourth home run of the season in a 1-for-2 effort at the plate.
Reliever Chase Hungate was credited with the win after taking over in the fifth inning and striking out three of the five batters he faced. Aidan Teel threw 11 pitches in the ninth inning to record his fourth save of the season.
