Virginia Track & Field Continues Competition on Day 2 of the 2026 Raleigh Relays

The Virginia Track & Field team continued competition on day 2 of the 2026 Raleigh Relays at Paul Derr Track & Field facility in Raleigh, N.C. on Friday (March 27)

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Virginia men’s and women’s track and field program continued competition at the 2026 Raleigh Relays at Paul Derr Track & Field facility on Friday (March 27) as  Gillian Bushee and Caleb Holman added their names to the record books. 
 
On the Track…
  • Despite a lightning delay, Gillian Bushee turned in a personal best of 33:13.83 for 10,000-meters to finish 17th overall in a loaded field. Bushee's time ranks No. 4 all-time in program history.
  • A trio of Cavaliers including Cate DeSousa, Ella Woehlcke and Katie Payne recorded personal bests in the women's 1500-meters. DeSousa led the way for the Cavaliers clocking 4:17.07 to finish inside the top 20 finishers at 17th of 218. Woehlcke and Payne ran 4:24.54 and 4:26.46 respectively.
  • Maya Rollins turned in a top five finish in the women's 100-meter hurdles crossing the line in 13.79 (-0.4) (4th).
  • In the same heat as Rollins, freshman Ava Rice finished 11th overall with her time of 13.97 (-0.4). 
  • Kaela Swift recorded a new personal best in the women's 100-meter dash clocking 11.79 (+0.2) (21st).
  • In the men's 100-meter dash, Petr Djan equaled his personal best of 10.45 (+1.9) to finish 12th overall. 
  • Harry Economon recorded a personal best in the men' 400-meters crossing the line in 48.27.
 
From the Field…
  • Janae Profit won the women's discus throw with a season best mark of 51.83m/170-0 on her final attempt in the competition.
  • Also in the discus competition, Suzie Kennelly turned in a personal best in third place with her mark of 51.26m/168-2.
  • In his season opener, Kendrick Curry finished runner-up in the men's pole vault clearing 4.72m/15-5.57.
  • On his first jump of the men's triple jump competition, Caleb Holman jumped out to a new personal best of 15.32m/50-3.50. Later on his final attempt, Holman furthered his best to 15.48m/50-9.50 to finish runner-up and becomeNo. 10 all-time in program history.
  • Liam Paneque leapt out to a personal best of 14.04m/46-0.75 in the men's triple jump on his third attempt in the competition.
  • In the women's high jump, Celia Rifaterra cleared 1.77m/5-9.75 to finish sixth overall.
  • After clearing the first four bars on her first attempt at each height, Elsa Spoor finished tied for seventh with her mark of 1.72m/5-7.75.

The Virginia men's and women's track and field teams continue competition on the third and final day of the 2026 Raleigh Relays at Paul Derr Track & Field facility on Saturday, March 28. Competition for the Cavaliers is set to being at 9:30 a.m. with Cale Ayers, Jeremiah Nubbe and Nikolaos Polychroniou in the men's weight throw competition.
