RALEIGH, N.C. — The Virginia men’s and women’s track and field program closed out a strong weekend of competition at the 2026 Raleigh Relays at Paul Derr Track & Field facility on Saturday (March 28) as Charlotta Sandkulls broke the school record to lead Virginia to sweep of the men's and women's hammer throw.
Cavalier Top 10s...
- On her final throw of the competition, Charlotta Sandkulla threw a new personal best of 66.02m/216-7 to best the field. The indoor weigh throw school record holder broke the school record and freshman record in Raleigh.
- The previous program record stood at 64.94m (213-1) set by Annika Kelly last season.
- Just behind Sandkulla was Bree Lumpkin in second place with a new personal best on her final attempt throwing for 62.01m/203-5. With her mark, the senior moves up to No. 4 all-time in program history.
- Aixa Corbacho finished fourth for the Cavaliers, third among collegiate athletes, also throwing a new personal best of 60.35m/198-0. The freshman moves up to No. 6 all-time, No. 3 among freshman in program history.
- In the men's weight throw, Cale Ayers threw a new personal best of 64.68m/212-2 on his penultimate throw. Ayers finished fifth overall and bettered his Virginia No. 7 all-time mark.

From the Field…
- The men's weight throw was led by Jeremiah Nubbe's fifth round throw of 72.64m/238-4. The senior won the competition and led the Cavaliers to a 1-2-5 finish.
- Just behind Nubbe in second place was Nikolaos Polychroniou with his mark of 69.15m/226-10.
- In the women's pole vault invitational, Samantha Romano cleared a season-best 3.96m/12-11.75 to tie for fourth place.
- Hannah Byrd-Leitner finished fourth in the women's pole vault earlier section clearing 3.82m/12-6.25.
On the Track…
- Multiple Cavaliers set new personal bests in the sprints including Kaela Swift in the women's 200-meter dash. Swift clocked a wind legal 24.11 (+0.3) to finish just inside the top 10 finishers in ninth place.
- In the women's 400-meter hurdles, Brooke'Lyn Drakeford ran her way to a new personal best of 1:00.53 and finished 13th overall.
- Anders Felts recorded a personal best on the men's 400-meter hurdles at 52.56 to finish seventh while his teammate Gage Gose notched a season best of 52.26 to finish fifth overall.
- Both Virginia men's and women's 4x400-meter relay teams recorded season best times.
- The women's team of Sarah Akpan, Ava Rice, Elsa Spoor, and Brooke'Lyn Drakeford combined efforts to clock 3:42.32.
- The men's team of Anders Felts, Gage Gose, Tyler Edson and Harry Economon got the baton around in 3:12.76.

The Virginia men's and women's track and field teams return home to Lannigan Field to host the Virginia Grand Prix on Friday, April 3 before making the trip to Durham, N.C. to compete at the Duke Invitational Wednesday through Saturday, April 8-11.
