Virginia Wins Nine Races on First Day of Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational

OAK RIDGE, Tenn.–The No. 2 Virginia rowing team won nine races on the first day of the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational Saturday (March 14) on Melton Hill Lake.
In the morning session, the Cavaliers swept races in the Varsity Eight (UVa time of 5:53.656), Second Varsity Eight (6:00.190), Varsity Four (6:43.578), Third Varsity Eight (6:10.166) and Second Varsity Four (6:37.550) over No. 12 Notre Dame, Alabama and Kansas.
The afternoon session saw Virginia defeat No. 9 Yale and Michigan State in the V8 (5:53.073), 2V8 (5:56.361) and 3V8 (6:03.900) races. In the V4 matchup, the Cavaliers (6:37.705) were second behind Yale (6:33.829), but ahead of the Spartans, while in the 2V4 race, UVa (6:31.941) defeated the Bulldogs.
The action continues Sunday morning (March 15) when the Cavaliers will compete against No. 18 Louisville and Oklahoma.
