No. 4 Virginia Sweeps Five Races on Final Day of Clemson Invitational

CLEMSON, S.C.–The No. 4 Virginia rowing team swept five races on a rainy Sunday morning (April 19) at the second day of the Clemson Invitational on Lake Hartwell.

Overall, the Cavaliers were victorious in 14 of 15 events over the course of the weekend.

“We were really pleased to win 14 of 15 races this weekend with the competition level of these programs,” UVa head coach Kevin Sauer said. “We also exposed some areas to work on that will help us going forward. Many thanks to Clemson for hosting a great event.”

The Cavaliers picked up wins in the Varsity Eight (time of 6:28.0), Second Varsity Eight (6:35.1) and Varsity Four (7:13.1) over ranked opponents No. 10 Washington State, No. 15 Harvard-Radcliffe, No. 18 Oregon State and No. 20 Minnesota.

The UVa Second Varsity Four posted a win over No. 12 Indiana, No. 14 Texas, Oklahoma, Penn, Dartmouth and Duke in a time of 7:18.5. In the last race of the day, the Cavalier Third Varsity Eight defeated the Crimson, Washington State, Oklahoma and Louisville’s Fourth Varsity Eight in a time of 6:38.1.

Next up, the Virginia Varsity Eight will travel out to Seattle, Wash., May 2 to compete for the Windermere Cup against No. 5 Washington as part of the city’s Opening Day Regatta.
