Senior midfielder Morgan Brian (St. Simons Island, Ga.) and junior forward Makenzy Doniak (Chino Hills, Calif.) were named to the first team, senior midfielder Danielle Colaprico (Freehold, N.J.) was named to the second team and junior defender Emily Sonnett (Marietta, Ga.) was named to the third team.

The Virginia women’s soccer team will be the No. 3 seed in the 2014 ACC Tournament, which will be held Nov. 7-9 at the UNCG Soccer Stadium in Greensboro, N.C.Virginia (17-1, 9-1 ACC) will play second-seeded North Carolina (12-2-2, 9-0-1 ACC) in Friday’s second semifinal at 8 p,m. Morgan Brian Named a Finalist for U.S. Soccer Young Female Athlete of the Year

Virginia senior midfielder Morgan Brian (St. Simons Island, Ga.) has been named a finalist for the 2014 U.S. Soccer Young Female Athlete of the Year award. It is the fourth time she has been named a finalist for the award, also having been recognized in 2010, 2011 and 2013.This fall Brian has seven goals and 10 assists for the Cavaliers, playing in just 13 games (missing eight games due to international duty). She became the fourth player in school history to earn first-team All-ACC honors for four consecutive years. Last week she tied the NCAA Tournament single-game record with five assists in Virginia’s 8-0 win over High Point in the opening round.

The fourth-ranked Virginia women’s soccer team advanced to the NCAA Women’s College Cup for the second consecutive year by upsetting top-ranked and reigning national champion UCLA 2-1 Friday night at Drake Stadium. The Cavaliers (22-2) advance to next week’s national semifinals, while the Bruins (21-1-2) had their 44-game unbeaten streak and their 27-game home unbeaten streaks snapped.Virginia will play either Texas A&M or Penn State in a national semifinal on Dec. 5 in Boca Raton, Fla. The 16 candidates were announced Tuesday by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.Virginia is the first school to have three players recognized as Hermann Trophy semifinalists since 2008, when both the North Carolina women and Wake Forest men accomplished the feat.

Virginia women’s soccer senior midfielder Morgan Brian (St. Simons Island, Ga.) was named the 2014 U.S. Soccer Young Female Athlete of the Year, the organization announced Thursday. This year Brian has led the Cavaliers to their second consecutive NCAA Women’s College Cup while also helping the United States Women’s National Team win the CONCACAF World Cup qualifying tournament.The U.S. Soccer Young Athlete of the Year award was created in 1998 to honor a player who played for a youth national team during the calendar year. A player can only win the award once in their career. Brian, who played for the U-23 National Team in addition to the senior team this year, was a finalist for the award the fourth time in her career in 2014.

The Virginia women’s soccer team had four players named All-Americans Friday by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Senior midfielder Morgan Brian (St. Simons Island, Ga.) and junior forward Makenzy Doniak (Chino Hills, Calif.) were named to the first team, senior midfielder Danielle Colaprico (Freehold, N.J.) was named to the second team and junior defender Emily Sonnett (Marietta, Ga.) was named to the third team.
Cavaliers Reach College Cup Final with 3-1 Win over Texas A&M

The fourth-ranked Virginia women’s soccer team advanced to its first NCAA Women’s College Cup final with a 3-1 semifinal victory over fifth-ranked Texas A&M Friday night at FAU Stadium. The Cavaliers (23-2) will play for their first national championship Sunday, while the Aggies (22-3-2) had their 14-game unbeaten streak snapped.Virginia will play second-ranked Florida State in Sunday’s final as the Seminoles defeated Stanford 2-0. Game time on the campus of Florida Atlantic University is 1 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on ESPNU.

The fourth-ranked Virginia women’s soccer team will play in its first NCAA Tournament final Sunday as it meets second-ranked Florida State in the NCAA Women’s College Cup at Florida Atlantic University. Game time at FAU Stadium is 1 p.m. and the game will be televised live on ESPNU.Sunday’s final marks the fourth time conference foes have met for the NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship, as North Carolina defeated NC State in 1988 and Duke in 1992 and Portland downed Santa Clara in 2002. Both the Cavaliers and Seminoles are looking to win their first NCAA Championship.
