A 2021 graduate of Goodrich High School, where he played four years of varsity football for Head Coach Tom Alward … three-time Division 3-4 All-State honoree … named All-Region in 2020 by the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association … named to the All-Metro League Stars Division First Team on both offense and defense … totaled 30 receptions for 548 yards and 11 touchdowns as a senior … also registered two touchdowns on punt returns and had two interceptions … as a junior, racked up 1,620 all-purpose yards and 25 touchdowns, caught 45 passes for 975 yards (21.7 yards per reception) with 11 touchdowns, rushed for 324 yards and four touchdowns on 29 carries, scored on a kickoff return and on offense and notched 70 tackles with seven interceptions and averaged 7.4 tackles per game on defense … as a sophomore, finished with 47 tackles and two interceptions, racked up 1,736 all-purpose yards and 16 touchdowns, caught 50 passes for 657 yards and nine touchdowns, rushed 35 times for 202 yards and two touchdowns, and returned kicks and punts for 729 yards and four touchdowns … also passes for 148 yards and a touchdown … as a freshman, made 42 tackles, intercepted two passes and had four pass breakups, while catching 21 passes for 583 yards and 11 touchdowns on offense … rated a three-star recruit by 247sports … earned All-State First Team honors in basketball … led Goodrich to a 21-1 record, No. 2 ranking in Division 2 and a district finals appearance before the MHSAA canceled the remainder of winter sports because of the COVID-19 pandemic ... son of Lance Sumpter and Keyatta Sumpter … older sister Tania was Michigan’s Miss Basketball winner in 2015, played collegiately at Iowa and is currently the head women's basketball coach at Detroit-Mercy.
