Macklin joined head coach Tony Elliott’s staff in February of 2025 after spending the previous two seasons as the assistant quarterbacks coach at West Virginia. As an offensive analyst at UVA, Macklin primarily works with the Cavalier quarterbacks.

At West Virginia, Macklin aided in the development of quarterback Garrett Greene who was one of the top dual threat signal callers in Mountaineer history. Greene became the fourth WVU quarterback in school history to throw for at least 3,500 yards and rush for at least 1,500 yards for his career. He led the nation in rushing touchdowns by a quarterback, was No. 2 in passing yards per completion (16.4) and was No. 20 in yards per attempt (8.7) as a junior in 2023. Greene earned Big 12 All-Conference accolades, a First Team Academic All-Big 12 selection, was Wuerffel Trophy Semifinalist during his time in Morgantown.

Macklin also brings NFL experience to the Virginia sidelines after he worked two seasons with the New Orleans Saints as a scouting and offensive coaches aid from 2021-23. He worked with the Saints receivers in his first season and assisted in the quarterback room that featured Jameis Winston, Andy Dalton, Trevor Siemian and Taysom Hill.

As a defensive back at the University of Central Arkansas, Macklin was part of two Southland Conference Championship teams during his collegiate playing career. He transferred to UCA after playing his freshman year at Coffeyville Community College where he was a member of the Jayhawk Conference All-Academic Team. Macklin was an inductee into the prestigious NFF Hampshire Honor Society at the conclusion of his career.
