Adam Mims was elevated to an assistant coach for wide receivers prior to the 2023 season after serving as a senior offensive analyst in 2022.

In his first season as a Cavalier assistant coach, Mims coached the most productive wide receiver tandem in UVA history in Malik Washington and Malachi Fields.

Mims helped to mentor UVA wide receiver Washington to multiple All-America honors after finishing the season with 110 receptions (single-season school record), 1,426 receiving yards (single-season school record) and nine touchdowns. Washington’s 110 receptions were the most in the country and broke the ACC single-season mark previously held by Jamison Crowder (Duke).

Fields caught 58 passes and accumulated 811 receiving yards to go along with five touchdowns receptions. He ranked in the top-five in the league in receiving yards (4th), receiving yards per game (5th – 67.6), receptions (6th) and receptions per game (7th – 4.83). Fields had 60 or more receiving yards in 11 of 12 games this season and 39 of his 58 receptions went for first downs.

Mims has a history of developing wide receiver talent.

He came to UVA after spending the previous three seasons as an assistant coach at UT-Chattanooga where he coached wide receivers. He mentored a pair of all-conference receivers in Reginald Henderson (2020-2021) and Bryce Nunnelly (2019) with the Mocs.

Mims also coached wide receivers at Tennessee Tech in 2018 and was the receivers coach and passing game coordinator at Presbyterian from 2016-2017. Wideout DaShawn Davis was honored with all-conference honors both of his seasons with the Blue Hose.

During the 2015 campaign, Mims worked as an offensive analyst at Samford. That season, the Bulldogs finished third in the nation in passing and seventh in total offense while boasting the top team completion percentage.

He was a three-time All-SoCon selection as a return specialist and wide receiver for Furman. He ended his collegiate career as the Paladins’ career record holder in receptions (198) and receiving yards (2,433) along with holding the school’s single-season mark for receptions (74). He scored 13 touchdowns, averaging 13.3 yards per catch while starting 25 of 48 career contests. Mims signed free agent contracts with the Pittsburgh Steelers (2011) and Montreal Alouettes (2012) during his professional career.

A native of Birmingham, Ala., Mims graduated from Furman in 2011 with a degree in health and exercise science.
